Music has remarkable powers. It can stir us into action; it can bring solace in times of grief and distress; it can bring peace and unity in times of chaos and division. Something as deceptively simple as a Bach minuet or as complex as a symphony by Bruckner can take us out of ourselves and transport us to another world, a world where order and serenity reign. In his much loved impromptus Schubert reveals the gamut of human emotions, from quiet grief to boundless and playful joy, from moments of intimate tenderness to the anguish and pain from loss and separation.
In his ballets "Coppelia" and "Naila" Delibes has captured all the joys and wonders of life. His music makes the body want to dance, the spirit soar. In these delightful and sparkling transcriptions by the Hungarian composer and pianist Erno Dohnanyi, we are able to do both...with timeless grace and a carefree heart!
